Today, a low speed electric vehicle, also known as a LSV or NEV (Neighborhood Electronic Vehicle) is defined as a four wheeled vehicle that weighs less than 3,000 pounds and runs on an electric (often led acid) battery, with a top travel speed of 25mph (40kph). Most battery operated vehicles can travel for 60-100 miles on a single charge.

LSV’s are not required to meet the same safety standards and regulations of regular internal combustion vehicles, but are mandated in most countries to be equipped with head and tail lights, brake lights, reflectors, mirrors, a parking break, a windshield, and seat belts.  In many countries, an orange triangle is also required on the back of the LSV
